Digitisation is changing printing, opening up new and exciting opportunities and demanding new ways of working and new skills. There has never been a more exciting time to be in print. In sponsoring the Trainee of the Year award, Heidelberg hopes to encourage printers to foster development and excellence in their workforce. Attracting and keeping staff, training and developing them for tomorrow’s world, is critical to success. In the words of Richard Branson: “Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don't want to.”
Heidelberg supplies equipment, workflows, consumables and support services and it has in recent years collated data that enables it to advise printers on how to achieve Overall Equipment Efficiency, to maximise output. This goes beyond the technology itself (though that is vital) to working practices and that highlights the importance of process discipline but also people power for top production and business performance. Well-trained staff with a can-do attitude and an understanding of good working practices are good for efficiency, for reputation and for profitability.
Our vision is to create technology that makes life better for everyone, everywhere — every person, every organization, and every community around the globe. This motivates us — inspires us — to do what we do. To make what we make. To invent, and to reinvent. To engineer experiences that amaze. We won’t stop pushing ahead, because you won’t stop pushing ahead. You’re reinventing how you work. How you play. How you live. With our technology, you’ll reinvent your world.

Two Sides is a not for profit, global initiative promoting the unique sustainable and attractive attributes of print, paper and paper packaging.
Our industry has a great sustainable story to tell. Our key raw material, paper, made from trees, is a natural and renewable resource. Despite consumer perceptions that print and paper is wasteful and bad for the environment, forests in Europe are growing in size, the equivalent of 1,500 football pitches every day, with an enviable paper recycling rate of 74% in Europe (83% paper packaging).
Supporting the SME of the year award, Two Sides recognises and champions that the industry must continue to innovate in design and manufacturing to reduce our impacts and unnecessary waste. We must also be able to explain to brands and consumers our commitments, achievements and our role in the circular economy.
